Learn More About Benzo Addiction Treatment

Benzodiazepines, or benzos, are a class of medications that are typically prescribed to treat anxiety. However, when they are misused, they can induce feelings of relaxation and pleasure, making them a tempting target for abuse. If a person continues to abuse them, over time she may eventually develop a benzodiazepine use disorder, a debilitating disorder that is often all but impossible to overcome without the help of an experienced team of professionals at a comprehensive addiction treatment and rehab center.

At The Rose of Newport Beach, we believe that overcoming a benzodiazepine use disorder should be a battle no woman fights alone. Since we first opened our doors, our multidisciplinary team has provided quality treatment and rehabilitation for women with benzodiazepine use disorders, and we are committed to the goal of giving each woman who comes to our benzo addiction treatment center the best possible chance to live a substance-free life.

How to Help a Loved One

Helping a loved one get treatment for benzo addiction

Benzodiazepine use disorders can have devastating effects on both the person with the disorder and that person’s loved ones. As you have watched our loved one struggle with benzo abuse, you have no doubt felt a range of negative emotions and may have even felt as though there is nothing you can do to help her. Fortunately, the truth is that you can take a number of steps to help, such as:

  • Learn more about benzos and the signs and symptoms of benzo abuse. Reputable websites and substance abuse treatment professionals can be helpful resources when trying to learn this information.
  • Work to maintain your relationship with your loved one. Share your concerns with her openly and nonjudgmentally, but be prepared for possible pushback from her. In the course of these conversations, your goal is not to argue with her but to reiterate your support of her while also sharing your concern. As such, try to ensure that the discussion does not turn into an argument.
  • Research options for treatment and rehab at benzo addiction centers. There are many different treatment and rehab centers that may be helpful, so do your research and make a list of a few that may be a good fit for your loved one.
  • Once your loved one is ready to enter treatment and rehab for her benzo abuse, share your list of treatment centers with her and discuss a few options. You can also help to arrange logistics, such as setting up meetings with treatment center staff and accompanying your loved one to those meetings. While she is in treatment and rehab, continue to remind her that you are there to support her.
  • Perhaps the most important thing you can do is to take care of yourself. Caring for a loved one with a benzodiazepine use disorder can consume a great deal of your time, so make sure to continue setting aside time for activities that rejuvenate you. Lean on your own support network of family and friends and keep up with your hobbies. Also, make sure to eat healthy, get enough sleep, and exercise regularly

Why Consider Treatment

Why consider treatment for benzo addiction at The Rose in Newport Beach, CA

Benzo abuse can have extremely negative consequences if it goes untreated, and there are few areas of a person’s life that are safe from its influence. One can fail to perform adequately at work, resulting in demotion or job loss. Over time, unemployment can wreak havoc on a person’s finances. In addition, a person’s social life can fall victim to benzo abuse as a person begins to prioritize using her drug of choice over maintaining relationships. This strain on relationships can result in divorce, separation, estrangement, or even complete social isolation and loss of social support. Benzo abuse can also affect a person’s own body and mind, causing other mental health symptoms to emerge, cognitive decline, poor decision-making skills, memory difficulties, organ damage, and even death as a result of overdose or suicide. While these consequences can be dire, there is always hope for a person to live a substance-free life if she seeks treatment and rehab for her benzo addiction at a comprehensive substance abuse program such as The Rose of Newport Beach.
