The holidays present a challenging, stressful, and emotional time for those struggling with an addiction. The staff at The Rose realizes the holidays can create a distraction from our clients’ treatment program. Any such distraction has the potential to negate hard earned progress that has been gained in treatment.

thanksgiving sober To combat the “Holiday Blues”, The Rose will be hosting it’s 25th Thanksgiving Dinner at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Resort Hotel.  Program Director Sandy Taylor and her staff will provide a warm, healthy, and traditional setting for the clients to enjoy the holiday and embrace the spirit of gratitude.

This will be Sandy and her family’s 18th year celebrating thanksgiving with the clients. She states that “It is our family’s favorite holiday.” The traditional Thanksgiving meal consists of

  • salad
  • roasted turkey
  • chestnut dressing
  • mashed potatoes
  • giblet gravy
  • candied yams
  • green beans
  • creamed corn
  • asparagus
  • cranberry sauce
  • dinner rolls

and of course:

  • pumpkin pie with whipped cream
  • warm bread pudding
  • an assortment of mini holiday pastries

After dinner clients have voted for an afternoon trip to the local theater to see a new release movie. After the movie it is back to the house for the traditional “Thanksgiving Nap” (always a client favorite).

Over the years clients have expressed how much they miss “Thanksgiving leftovers.” This year Sandy made arrangements to have all of the traditional leftovers available for grazing later on in the evening.

This special day will end with a wrap-up meeting allowing each client the opportunity to express their feelings throughout the day and reflect on all that they have to be grateful for.

Sandy and her staff once again will attempt to ease those “Holiday Blues” that so many in recovery experience.
